In Euro 2012 we trust

Honestly, I have had a hard time browsing websites in search of some good or at least uplifting news. For God’s sake, are there only dramatic events happening in the world :| ? Oddly enough, after a longer while I have managed to find an article which may be considered as an optimistic scenario for Poland. Even though one would find it inappropriate to look forward to any abrupt economic changes in the country, I believe that this article can raise somebody’s hopes for better future and life in Poland. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed for EURO 2012 and hope for all the benefits exemplified by Mr. Herra to come true.

Once upon a time…

We all know that books stimulate our imagination and creativity and this is a universal truth. The more we read the better speaker and writer we are. Books play a significant role in shaping our opinions and in creating a large vocabulary. All this seems so obvious that may even sound as a cliché… so why in times when access to books appears so easy and everyone should already realize their powerful influence, reading is not ingrained in our mentality yet?! It is said that the younger reader we are, the more books affect us. In Poland, there are various campaigns which aim to encourage parents to read to their children; we are actually bombarded with “this knowledge” and voices saying: read! Read! However, children are not aware of it, and thus it is the role of adults to raise their awareness of how reading is important. So what to do in particular? Lock up your child with “historic” books which are “historical” for Polish “history” and let them go providing they read them all? It does not seem the best solution... Honestly, I do believe that books should be adjusted to children’s age, interests and personality, otherwise one can be discouraged to read once and for all. Sadly, education system does not fully obey to it and in fact offers an array of books which turn out too difficult in terms of their hidden messages, vocabulary or plot itself. Young men should be delivered books which inspire them and push them to read more… When they get older, their choice is more conscious, but as children they little know what is best for them. That is why I call to everyone to keep this in mind and cater for younger generation’s proper mental development.

I let myself change the course of the initial topic for the second post a little bit, but I hope you do not mind.
